On Monday, February 6th, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Turkey and Syria. Etkin Coffee<\/a>, whose cofounder is one of our regular contributors, Michael Butterworth, is donating all profits this week to earthquake relief funds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why It Matters:<\/strong> For this week, you can buy any of Etkin Coffee’s products, including a set that includes a dripper and carafe, both made in Turkey, and all profits will go to the Turkish Philanthropy Fund’s Turkieye Earthquake Relief Fund<\/a>. “We are proud that the Etkin Dripper was invented, designed, and manufactured entirely in Turkiye. We are heartbroken by the earthquakes that have devastated southeastern Turkiye, including our cofounder’s hometown of Adana,” Etkin Coffee says in a press release sent to Fresh Cup. “Thousands of people have lost their lives. Millions have been displaced. This week we will be donating all profits from our webstore to aid in the ongoing relief efforts.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many outlets have covered the devastation of the earthquake, which is the largest earthquake to affect the region since 1939<\/a>. At least 12,000 have died, and relief and rescue efforts are ongoing.\u00a0“The\u00a0SCA T\u00fcrkiye Chapter<\/a>\u00a0is coordinating efforts to serve coffee to first responders, spearheaded by Niji Coffee\u2014a roaster located in Gaziantep, the epicenter of the first earthquake.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
