As a program of A Little Compassion Inc., the caf\u00e9\u2019s mission is to provide young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities an opportunity to gain work experience and confidence in a setting that\u2019s grounded in acceptance and support.<\/p>\n<p>Jane Moen founded the business in part for her daughter Kaylee, who was diagnosed on the autism spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was a kid, a teen, I struggled a lot after my diagnosis,&#8221; says Kaylee to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtnh.com\/on-air\/connecticut-families\/deep-river-coffee-shop-employing-those-with-disabilities-celebrates-grand-opening\/2048756465\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WTHN News<\/a>. &#8220;I only ever saw other people struggling and not knowing what they would do with their future\u2014I never met an adult who got through it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She now works as a shift supervisor at the shop.
